What is a Landscape photo?
These are some landscape photos I took in my first lesson back in photography. I really enjoyed taking these photos.
This was my favourite picture that I took because if someone looked at the photo they would think it was cold outside and it was about to rain but actually it was actually very warm and the sky was blue it was just the camera angle and how I took the picture I also love the buildings in the background as makes it more interesting.
landscape outside of school
more landscapes outside of school.
These were some landscape photography photos I took on my way home . I focused more on sunsets, trees and houses as my main focus, I thought it was the perfect time to take these photos as each one represented a sense of calmness . I consider these photos as a 'good' photo as you can see the sky and the floor proportionally and there is more than one focus point.
This was my favorite image that I took out of the 10 because of how basic it is, but more meaningful at the same time. The different contrasting in the sky gives me the impression that the picture is moving as your looking at it from possibly a moving car or walking along the road. The emptiness of the image gives off a sense of freedom and peace because everything is so still.
wrong work
Today we was learning about "bad landscape" what really make a bad landscapes ?
When there isn't a specific thing to look at.
When the lighting is off.
When the horizon isn't showing or the sky .
Overall these are my worst 'bad landscapes '.

These are some photos I took during today’s photography lesson. We were learning about landscapes and what is the difference between a good one and a bad landscape. My aim was to have an object in front of the photo, for example a pole, to disrupt the view.
This was my favorite wrong photo as it’s a very unclear photo the background looks unclear the pole is in the way of the whole picture it seems very boring and you can’t really see the horizon it’s also looks like there’s a lot of things going at once which many people wouldn’t like. There is also nothing to specifically look at .
comparing landscapes
On the picture on the left I can see a cowboy and a lot of clouds Whereas on the picture on the right I can see a boring landscape that hasn’t got anything interesting to look at .The similarity is that they are both a landscape format, they both feature deserted areas. The main differences are that the first photo is mostly sky and you can barely can see the land but in the second photo there is mostly land.
One looks more appealing to look at compared to the other.Another difference is that one is black and white and the other is in colour . Also for the picture on the left I could kinda guess what’s going on without a backstory but for the picture on the right it’s really hard to tell what’s going on or why the picture was taken. Also the second one gives off a negative atmosphere compared to the first photo. Overall I think they are both good photos and have different meanings and contexts.

RAY METzker - pictus interruptus
Metzker's 'Pictus Interruptus' series presents landscapes disrupted by strange, abstract forms. These appear to be objects placed by the photographer in front of the camera lens - often out of focus - so that they interfere with our view of the landscape beyond.
Ray K. Metzker was an American photographer chiefly known for his bold, experimental black and white city landscapes , printed film strips and single frames. Metzker lived in Philadelphia from the 1960s until his death 2014.
What makes Metzker photos appealing to look at is multiple incisions made in order to create an abstracted interrupted images .His work really interests me as it opened my eyes into the different ways photos can be taken. Most of Metzker photos has an outer and inner focus point of view .Most of his inner focus images are based of sea, trees whereas his outer focus images are hard to interrupt making them a 'disrupted landscape'.

disrupted landscapes
Here are some of my "Disrupted landscapes" .
Through random trimmings of one image I tried to create a thoughtless photograph of the school. This was vey successful because I was able to intertwine two images into one.
'What Remains' Picture Comparison
The picture on the left is completely different to the one on the right. Firstly it’s much easier to tell what’s going on. It also has less things going on. The only thing you can see is a tree. On the other hand, the picture on the right is much harder to tell what’s going on but from my knowledge I can only see a tree but if you look at the caption you will start to get more of an idea on what’s going on you can tell on the bottom right are some gardening tools. The main similarities between these two photos are that they both contain trees. The photo on the right tests your imagination because there isn’t a clear understanding of what you are looking at. Sometimes, the less information you are given the better. The main difference is that the image on the right appears more childish than the cut out tree on the left.
MY Minimal Landscape photograms
Photoshop Experiment
I decided to combine one of my disrupted landscape images with my minimal landscape photogram using Photoshop layers and blending modes. I'm really pleased with the result.
brea souders
Brea Souders is a photographer who goes on Google Maps looking for glitches in the landscape, often in the form of a photographer's shadow.
MY google glitches
I also looked for my own Google Glitches where the automatic digital stitching of numerous pictures by the Google software goes a little wrong:
These are some glitches i discovered during my photography lesson on Google Maps . These were very different to each other some where shadow glitches and some were people and other objects that have been distorted by the algorithm.
dafnor talmor.
Dafna Talmor is a photographer who works with landscapes . Her constructed landscapes is mostly dark photos.Constructed Landscapes transforms colour negatives of landscapes initially taken as mere keepsakes through the act of slicing and splicing. Dafna Talmor's work is like like no other due to the process behind each image .
Dafna work is in dialogue with more modern tendencies of experimental photographs and film techniques such as montage.
abstract calendar
I had a go at creating constructed landscape photographs using the Abstract Advent illustrations for guidance. Unfortunately, I was unable to complete the whole set but I like the images I was able to make.
My personal response to constructed landscapes
For the last few weeks, I have been experimenting with my own personal response to this theme. These pictures capture my process. Please take a look at my online exhibition page to see my favourite outcomes.
Today I experimented with old 35mm film photos, cutting them apart and creating new landscapes by sticking together the fragments. I used a range of materials e.g. paints, scalpels, coloured cellophane etc. I used old negatives bought on eBay. I cut them up and then started to add them together. I used some paint just to make it more interesting. I then taped it all together to create collages.
I enjoyed seeing my images projected large on the wall. I loved the outcome. I took photos of them and then put different shapes in front of the projector so it could look like we made several photos.
These film photos were actually of people who lived in to 60s and 70s. We got to see those photos and make them our own. In those days here weren't any phone cameras so people used positive and negative film to capture their memories. I honestly think these were amazing as fast forward 50 years and your photos are still around and other people get to enjoy them too.

Video experiment
chemigrams
I watched this video which was really interesting. While watching this video i took some notes on what equipment you need to make the chemigrams. You will need some darkroom paper. The lady then started to take cut some pierces of tape with her hands she then put them in random pieces together just like what we have been doing in out past photography lessons. The equipment you will need are a brush, sponge and dish. You then will also need to pour some developer an fixer in a spray bottle. I am not sure if this is correct but pretty sure she then removed the tape from the piece of paper and the taped it to another. She then sprayed some of the fixer on top of a circle shape (I am really not sure on what it is called). Finally, it was done and it came out looking really beautiful like a crystal photo.
alice cazaneve workshop
During our photography lesson Monday we did our own chemigram photos. At first we started to boil our plant; we boiled rosemary sprigs but you can use any plant. After we went outside to the basketball court to go pick out some plants mostly grass as we didn’t want to harm anything. We then started to make our own chemigrams. My favourite chemigram is probably the first one as I winged that one. I didn’t really know how it would come out. I also loved the middle one as a splashed pink in it. Most of the chemigrams we made looked like there was paint but it was all really natural and just depended on what you really did. Chemigrams isn’t actually hard compared to how it looks. It was pretty easy and fun. I really enjoyed how we got to just work out magic. There wasn’t really any steps or structure you had to follow. We used lotions and oil as our resists

Alice Quaresma research
I have really enjoyed looking at Alice Quaresma's pictures. She uses old photographs, usually of cities or tropical landscapes and adds stickers, coloured paper and paint to them to create new "constructed landscape' collages.
My response
Further Experiments
These are some experiments I did during my double lessons with sir .We put one of my landscapes on the projector and took different photographs of it this was really fun and I enjoyed it especially because I appeared in some. If you look closely you can see it is even projected on my skirt and jumper which was really cool to notice.
whole day experiment.
During todays making day I did a variety of different things such as this .These were the photos I took during the day and did some changing to it using an photoshop app I changed the font I also moved some parts of it and change it up a bit .
During the making day I took some ideas from Alice Quaresma as I have been looking at her as my inspiration as her work has really interested me this was one of my experiments. I created this by visiting Google street view and looked at Saudi Arabia and Peru, I visited these places as I wanted remote places with nothing much in the landscape. I knew that I wanted to choose a simple landscape because I wanted to add color by using a variety of different mediums such as watercolored paint, colored tape and acrylic paint. I screenshot the image and printed it off as A3. I then experimented as I have been doing for the past few lessons and just taping some parts I also did fine lines using paint this came out successfully and I am proud of what I have done. I did some other photos such as using other colors and background landscape. To refine this further I will probably project the image with the other landscape which I photographed that I did and just be playing around with it.
final whole day
These are the rest of the work i did this day.
FINAL evaluation:
At the start of my project Constructed Landscapes, I explored what a conventional landscape photograph such as sunsets and forests, looked like. I chose these types of picture because they were easier to describe and to make. I then decided that they didn’t really have a meaning behind them for me. In the lessons, we began to review the disrupted landscapes of Ray Metzker. These photos were of landscapes that have been disrupted by something out of focus in the foreground. I tried to make my own versions of them. They were really challenging to make and I felt outside my comfort zone as I was more used to just taking conventional photos not actually thinking about how I should take them or what angle to use. So, this project helped me develop my skills in constructing landscape photographs. A few lessons into Constructing Landscapes we started to Brea Souders her work was much more interesting and creative their project was one of my favourite work we have done in terms of constructed landscapes. Before we actually started looking at Brea Souders we did a lesson based on the theme of “wrong “ in which the aim was to create unique images what were meaningful "wrong" .This was a very broad theme because before the lesson we never knew about “wrong” photographs . This helped us prepare for Brea Souders project as we would use google maps to see any glitches. This project was very useful as I did take some ideas for my final outcome.
I came across a artist called Alice Quaresma I instantly fell in love with her work it was unique and beautiful. I looked more into her work and decided that I wanted to do something like her so for the past 3 weeks I have been trying to recreate her work and take some ideas from her I also used the projector a lot more . One thing I really enjoyed about doing landscapes that Alice Quaresma worked on is that it was very clear and sustainable compared to other landscapes where a lot of things were going on. I also liked the fact that their was less going on which means you could do whatever you wanted and it would still come out looking amazing.
Throughout my time learning about constructed landscapes I experimented with a wide range of different media, processes and techniques in this project including experimenting with 35mm film photos by cutting them apart and making my own landscapes then taping them back together I also experimented using chemigrams , google maps , the dark room and photoshop .All these different experiments helped me prepare for my final outcome.
As it was getting to the end of my Constructed Landscapes journey and my knowledge on Constructed Landscapes was increasing, I started to explore more ideas in depth for instance, I would take one of my landscapes that I photographed outside of school then I would get my constructed landscapes that I would make during my double lesson by remaking old photographs that were sold on eBay, then merge them by using the projector but before I would merge them I would often construct one of my landscapes for instance I would block out most of my landscapes by using tape (mostly coloured tape ) I would then go print it of. I would repeat this step multiple times before using the projector. Thanks to discovering Alice Quaresma my ideas about Constructed Landscapes increased as I became more creative with my ideas making me enjoy Constructed Landscapes even more.
Overall I am very pleased with my final outcomes as they represent how I feel about the theme constructed landscapes and landscapes in general.
